SMHS Music Boosters Announce College and Music Camp Scholarship Winners
The South Milwaukee High School Music Parents (SMPA), a booster club for the musical arts at SM High School, is pleased to announce their 2009 scholarship winners.
The following Class of 2009 Seniors received college scholarships:
Awe Memorial Scholarship ($500) - Samantha Kohn; Stiemke Memorial Scholarship ($500) - Amanda Mather; Meyer Memorial Scholarship ($500) - Evan Sweet; and three SMPA Music Scholarship ($400 each) to: Allison Framberg, Daniel Miles, and Rebecca Pfeffer.
The SMPA leaders were excited to learn of increased interest with five students applying for summer music camps scholarships. The SMPA policy is to grant four ($150) scholarships, and for many years the scholarships went unused. By a unanimous board vote, scholarships were granted to all five students. The scholarships are for SMHS underclassmen in band, choir and orchestra.
SMPA is pleased to announce the 2009 Summer Camp Grantees and their camps: Mark Czarnezki Band—(UW Stevens Point); Sarah Henry Band/Choir (UW Platteville); Jenny Hoffman Choir/Orchestra—(Shell Lake); Megan Jewett Choir/Orchestra (UW Platteville); and Adam Stresing Orchestra (UW Whitewater).
Attending a summer music camp is an outstanding opportunity to network with other music-minded teens from around the state, learn new music techniques and get a feel for what it’s like to live on a college campus.
These days, college recruiters are looking beyond the GPA and want to see Teamwork and Leadership on college applications. Music naturally offers these opportunities.
