Four fearless hunters by the names of ‘Diesel,’ ‘Doogski,’ ‘Moose’ and ‘Digger’ are planning a comical song-filled night for you at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center with Deer Camp: The Musical on Thursday, October 14, at 7:30 pm. You’ll laugh your antlers off while the guys from Elmwood, Minnesota discuss their humorous thoughts on wives, grunt horns, male dancers, food, coupons, old age, family “togetherness,” and even on rare occasions, hunting. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors or $10 for students and may be purchased by calling the SMPAC Box Office at 414-766-5049 or online at www.southmilwaukeepac.org. The Box Office will also open one hour prior to the performance.
Our hunters are a unique crew, to say the least. Douglas ‘Doogski’ Matowski is Elmwood’s hardware man who really knows his stuff. His approach to life is simple, “If it won’t fit, get yourself a whatchamacallit or a big thingamabob.” Franklin ‘Diesel’ Thorkin is the former ‘Nam Tank diesel mechanic who never actually made it to ‘Nam. His personal life would make a great soap opera. Anslo ‘Moose’ Johnson was slapped too hard at birth. His approach to life is based on the motto, “It’s always darkest right before the tornado hits.” Clarence ‘Digger’ LaVigne is a mortician by trade, and the only college graduate of the camp crew. He likes to “unwind” at the Mule Lip Saloon with the guys and a few “occasional” beers to try to dilute all the embalming fluid he’s been inhaling at his funeral home for decades.
This hilarious musical written by Gene Jurek and Doug Spartz follows our fearless deer hunters on their annual trek to deer camp. After decades of hunting and no deer to be seen, their wives begin to get suspicious. The men are out to prove themselves this season as the mighty hunters they claim to be. This is not so easy when the thought of drinking beer and hanging out in the deer shack is more appealing than freezing their butts off in a deer stand. Laugh and sing along as they hatch a plan to save their hunting paradise without firing a shot. Luckily for our guys, what happens at deer camp stays at deer camp!
So don your blaze orange and gear up for the hunt! You’re in for an evening of beer drinking, late night song singing and lots of witty humor!
