The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is offering the following programs:
South Milwaukee Aquatic Club - The program, for children ages 6 and over who can swim two pool lengths and adults, is designed for beginning and experienced swimmers. Competition is optional. Attendance is not mandatory at all practices. The winter session will run through Friday, March 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Fridays and from 6 to 7:20 p.m. Wednesdays. Fees are $44 per resident and $66 per nonresident. An additional meet fee will be assessed.
Adult Softball - Individuals wishing to organize a team in any of the various womens, mens or co-ed leagues may now pick up a team entry form at the recreation office. New teams will be accepted on a first-come, first- served basis and placed where openings are available. Registration will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday March 11, at the recreation office. Entries, including all forms, pertinent information and proper fees, may also be mailed to the recreation department.
Softball Pitching Clinic - The clinic will run from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21 and 28, in the Middle School gym for children ages 9 through 14.
Softball Throwing and Catching Clinic - The clinic will run from 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21 and 28, in the Middle School gym for children ages 6 through 8.
Softball Hitting Clinic - The clinic will run Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. March 7, 14, 21 and 28 in the Middle School gym for children ages 8 through 13. Jim Malek, former South Milwaukee varsity softball coach, will instruct these clinics. The fees are $20 per resident and $30 per nonresident.
T-Ball - The program will be offered to both boys and girls ages 4 through 7. Classes will be held from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Saturdays, April 25, May 2, 9, 16, 30 and June 6, with no class May 23 All participants are to report to Rawson at 9 a.m. April 12. Depending on class size, remaining weeks may be run in two sessions (from 9 to 9:50 a.m. and 10 to 10:50 a.m.).
Middle School Track - The program will be offered to sixth- through eighth-graders from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 30 through May 31. The fees are $42 per resident and $63 per nonresident.
Spring Adult Exercise Class - The eight-lesson classes will begin the week of April 6. All classes will be held in room 1125 of the Senior High School, except water aerobics will be offered in the Middle School pool.
Youth Football - Priority registration for the program for fifth- through seventh-graders will run through Tuesday, March 31, at a fee of $165 per player. After that date, the fee will be $215. Registration forms may be obtained from the recreation office.
Fieldhouse Access - The South Milwaukee Senior High School fieldhouse track access is free to South Milwaukee residents and $25 a year for nonresidents.
Cardio Blast Kickboxing - The class will meet for 28 sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays and is open to anyone age 16 and over. It will run through Wednesday, April 22, with no class April 14 or 16. Fees are $84 per resident and $126 per nonresident.
Winter Martial Arts - A variety of martial arts classes will be offered to children ages 4 and over and adults Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 12 through Aug. 13, in room 2720 of the Middle School. All students must purchase a uniform, which costs approximately $30. Additional information will be available at the first class from instructor Rick Gawronski. Participants should enter through door No. 34 and park in the High School lot.
Competitive Swimmers' Stroke Clinic - The course provides instruction on improving starts, turns and the four strokes used in competitive swimming. Boys and girls ages 13 through 18 who are interested in high school swimming are encouraged to sign up. Participants must be able to swim two lengths of the pool unassisted and without stopping. Students may bring snorkels, fins and goggles. The class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 16; Tuesday, March 17; Thursday, March 19; and Friday, March 20, in the Middle School pool. Participants should enter through door No. 34. The fees are $20 per resident and $30 per nonresident.
To register for or obtain details on these programs, stop in the Recreation Office, located in room 901 of the Senior High School, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m..
Registrations may also be mailed, along with proper fees, to the Recreation Department at 901 15th Ave., South Milwaukee, WI, 53172.
