It was hard for senior South Milwaukee 285-pound wrestler Bill Mitchell to put things in perspective after Superior's unbeaten Nikola Bogojevic hit him with a strong upper-body throw and pinned him at 4:37 in the WIAA state finals Saturday night at the Kohl Center in Madison.
South Milwaukee, which last appeared in the playoffs in 1998, looked like a seasoned tournament team early in a Division 2 playoff game against Bradley Tech Tuesday night as the high school football playoffs kicked off around the state.

The sports season is full swing at South Milwaukee, St. Francis and Cudahy high schools. And throughout the school year, we'll will be updating this gallery with the latest photos from all the sports at our local high schools.
The Wauwatosa West boys basketball team defeated South Milwaukee, 67-57, in the first round of the WIAA Division 1 tournament on March 2.
Whitnall High School hosted the Woodland Conference wrestling tournament on Feb. 6. Pewaukee was first with 221 points.
The host West Allis Central Bulldogs captured the Stech Invitational title for the first time in 26 years on Dec. 19.
Shorewood took first place in the eight-team Woodland Conference Relay Swim Meet on Dec. 10 at Cudahy.
