Subj: State may move to eliminate our control over sex offender residency
Dear Leaders:
You’re receiving this e-mail because you had a leadership role in passing ordinances regulating movement and residency of sex offenders who committed crimes against children.
For the second year in a row, legislation has been introduced in the state legislature to overturn our ordinances (home rule) and replace them with the wisdom of the state bureaucracy.
The list of legislators who have signed on as sponsors of this legislation is pretty amazing. It shows the skill with which the bill was written at the direction of Sen. Taylor.
The majority of the bill deals with state imposed GPS movement restrictions, perhaps a good thing. The end of the bill nullifies our ordinances.
I ask that you or your staff keep close tabs on this legislation and make your feelings known to the legislature.
As always, don’t hesitate to call or e-mail if I can help in any way.
Remember that

In case you haven't seen it yet, SB548 is a proposal, among other things, to prohibit the city's enforcement of our Sex Offender Residency & Child Safety Zones Ordinance.
