Interesting forum going on over on the www.southmilwaukee.org site on whether South Milwaukee's restaurants and bars should be smoke free. I started to paste some of the comments in here, but decided to post the link and encourage readers of this blog to weigh in on southmilwaukee.org.
I am originally from S.M. and have been living in So. Cal for 32 years, and saw the ridiculous series of non-smoking laws metamorphasize to the point of removing so many civil liberties out here. The origin of our no-smoking laws were due to OSHA, as an employee safety law in office buildings and manufacturing sites, when the cities started levying this ban on restaraunts and bars, it destroyed a number of businesses, thus jobs. Not meaning to quote George Orwell, but we need to quell the "Big Brother" theme that this will start, yes I mean to say it "will' become the preverbial slippery slope in which there is no return from, don't let this happen, you will regret it. In many communities in Cal. you can't smoke on the streets, even if you are in your car, you can't smoke on the beaches, in the parks, etc. etc... and get this I am quite adament about these laws being stopped, and I've never smoked at any time in my life.
I am soon moving back to So. Mil. and will gladly lead the way in opposition to this proposal when I arrive.
