The Barking Lot

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me.  It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAYMostly sunny. High of 77. "A"

SUNDAY
Mostly sunny. High of 80. "A"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

Growing up, I hated and I mean HATED yard & driveway clean-up duty with our two dogs.  The absolute WORST was the first full thaw when all the winter “deposits” came to view once all the snow was melted.  The second worst was the (sorry, I have to) dog days of summer for other obvious reasons.

We didn’t have a twice-a-day walking routine with our beloved pups.  If we did of course we would have carried plastic baggies with us and done the responsible thing of cleaning up immediately.  But I’ll admit that since they did their duty in our yard, the need for instant tidying wasn’t there.

Still, we never let things get out of hand.  Why would we?  Who wants to go outside to grill dinner, or enjoy a summer evening on the porch swing and get a whiff of something worse than a bad wind off the Milwaukee River?  And who wants to do a little dance in their own yard just to avoid stepping on a “land mine?”  Eeew.

Generally speaking I’m not a fan of over-regulation and having the government step all over my personal property rights.  Unnecessary laws can get out of control quickly and before you know it Big Brother is sitting on your front step waiting for your next mistake.  HOWEVER, if dog owners are so irresponsible as to not pick up dog droppings in their OWN YARD I’m all for a bit of governmental intervention.  Again I wonder why something like this should even be needed and again I say, “Eeew.”

Hopefully the issue in North Hills will be resolved and dog owners everywhere will learn their lesson.
