This Just In ...

Kevin Fischer is a veteran broadcaster, the recipient of over 150 major journalism awards from the Milwaukee Press Club, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, and others. He has been seen and heard on Milwaukee TV and radio stations for over three decades. A longtime aide to state Senate Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature, Kevin can be seen offering his views on the news on the public affairs program, "InterCHANGE," on Milwaukee Public Television Channel 10, and heard filling in on Newstalk 1130 WISN. He lives with his wife, Jennifer, and their lovely young daughter, Kyla Audrey, in Franklin.

Welcome back, Craig Koplien!

Former WTMJ-TV meteorologist Craig Koplein is now working at Fox 6. Regular readers will know that in the past I have teased Koplein on my blog.

I was pleased to hear him back forecasting while listening to him in the past week on WRIT-FM.

I distinctly heard him in my car while on the road to the Z
oo Sunday informing that rain and storms were “likely” Memorial Day afternoon.

Upon hearing Koplein’s warning, Jennifer immediately raised the possibility that our Memorial Day plans would be, if not ruined, have to be altered.

I chuckled heartily.

“No, no, no. Koplein says rain is likely? We’ll be just fine.”

This morning I filled Kyla’s swimming pool under very little sunlight.  Just before noon we shopped at Sendik’s for some bacon-wrapped filets, potatoes, and strawberry shortcake fixings for our Memorial Day fare.

“Shouldn’t we prepare inside?” asked Jennifer.

I chuckled heartily.

Shortly after 12:00 a bright sun beat down on our backyard patio and Kyla’s pool. Kyla couldn’t wait to don her Minnie Mouse swimsuit and hit the water.

“Won’t she have to come in soon because of the rain and storms?” said Jennifer.

I chuckled heartily.

As Kyla nibbled on leftover pizza from Casa di Giorgio in Franklin with lemonade I joined her. Soon Jennifer emerged in her swimsuit and with sun brightly shining we enjoyed a backyard pool party.

The clock read 1:00.

“Better enjoy while we can,’ said Jennifer.

I chuckled heartily.

The temperature continued to rise under a sunny sky at 2:00 and now it was time for homemade tortilla chips and salsa. I went inside to apply additional sunscreen.

It was tough to pry Kyla out of her pool at around 3:30 when some great clouds started to obliterate the sun, but by 4:00 she was out cold for a nap. Meanwhile it was still dry.

I checked Weather Channel that said storms would begin after 5:00 but some sun would return at 6:00.

Jennifer and I finally fled indoors at about 5:15 when the skies opened. With a sly grin Jennifer said, “Ruined our plans, didn’t he?”

I chuckled heartily.

At 5:30 the skies cleared. I lit the Weber. As of this posting my area has been subject to rain for an entire 10-15 minutes this morning and afternoon.

Our steaks were lovely, especially with that topping of gorgonzolla cheese. What a lovely Memorial Day!  We let nothing or anybody put a damper on our activities today.

Again, welcome back, Craig. We’ll be watching and listening! (chuckle).

Jennifer, is the strawberry shortcake ready?
