The Barking Lot-America's Finest Dog Blog (04/26/14)

The Barking Lot

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In
Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me.  It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then its DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY:  Mostly sunny. High of 48. "D"

SUNDAY:  Showers. High of 50. "D"

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog:

I’m looking to meet that special someone.  Someone who loves to go for long walks in all kinds of weather.  Someone who loves delicious food including bacon, steak, and chicken.  I don’t drink alcohol, or smoke.  I have long shiny red hair and hazel eyes, and have a medium build.  I’m happy to be friends at first, but would like to start a family soon.  If you would like to meet me I’m available most evenings after 5:30, and on Saturdays and Sundays…

..That’s when my owner is home.

Gotcha!  There for a minute you thought you were reading a human personal ad (and not one from an Irish Setter) didn’t you?  But what if your four-legged friend would like to have a few new friends as well as meet “the one?”  There aren’t exactly a lot of places that can happen.  Oh sure the dog park is great for a little romp and fun but isn’t that like the equivalent of a tacky “singles bar?”  What if your pup is looking for something deeper and more meaningful?  And don’t you want grandpuppies soon?  What can you do?

There seems to be no end to the popularity and growth of social media.  Kevin has mentioned so many dogs in his Dogs In The News feature where the dog’s story spurred the owner to create a Facebook page exclusively for the pup.  I’m willing to bet that 95% of the time, the dog’s page has more “likes” and friends than the owners!

Kevin already thinks I’m over-the-top dog obsessed.  One of his biggest arguments against us getting a dog (after the heartbreaking short life of an average dog) is that the Fischer pooch would rank higher in the family status than he would.  I’d like disagree with him, but I can’t.  But the minute I would create a Facebook page or Twitter account for our DOG, I think he’d have me committed.

I guess it’s a good thing we don’t live in New York.  A HuffPo blogger Julie Spira weighs in as well.

I guess I’ll have to stick to the old-fashioned approach when we get our pooch and hope that when we’re out for a walk, our dog will glance across the street to a neighbor dog and the rest will be history.  Otherwise we’ll be out of luck in the romance department...
