Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Follow her blog of all things miscellaneous including but not limited to cooking and baking, entertaining and party planning, being a mommy, and homekeeping.

It didn't come in a box like this...

…but it may as well have.  Kyla got her first piece of jewelry from a boy today.  And now, it starts.

Kyla and Johnny have become very good friends in the short amount of time they’ve been in the same class.  They sit together at lunch and play together at recess.  From their teacher’s accounts, he is a perfect gentleman who holds the door open for her and helps her put her chair up at the end of the day.

I was told that last week when the class earned the chance to watch Frozen they sat together with their heads on each other’s shoulders.  They hug goodbye every day before they are dismissed.  And when Kyla made Johnny a card he proudly showed the rest of the class what she gave him.

Ah, “young love.”

St. Anthony’s firmly believes in positive reinforcement for academic achievement.  There is a reward system that lets the children choose a prize from a “treasure chest” if, by the end of the day, they have reached a certain level of good behavior.  The treasure chest offers a bounty of novelty pencils, stickers, jewelry, etc.

Today, Johnny had earned a chance to pick from the treasure chest.  Not terribly surprising given that he is usually very well-behaved.  What was surprising was his choice in prize.  Their teacher asked him, “Johnny, are you SURE you want to pick a purple sparkly heart bracelet?”  Yes, he was sure.

“I want to give it to Kyla.”

So Kyla came running out to show me her special bracelet from Johnny.  It wouldn’t surprise me if she wanted to sleep with it under her pillow tonight.  I told her that it was VERY nice of him to do that for her.  “I know,” she replied.  “I’ve never seen anyone give up their prize for someone else before!”

For her Daddy, however, it’s a different situation.
