Family lured Jerrianne and her husband to South Milwaukee in 2002 from Southern California where she worked as, first, a journalist, then, as a court information officer. She now stays busy with media-relations consulting, playing with her three grandchildren (part of the lure), writing, discovering her new environs, and hoping her garden will produce before the first fall frost.
So there I was having lunch on Monday with Associated Press Special Correspondent Linda Deutsch and Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lance Ito at Taix French Restaurant in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, when up walked two men I didn't immediately recognize.
Turns out one was recently elected Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who Ito knew. He and Ito chatted a bit, then Ito introduced Linda and me to him. Garcetti introduced his lunch companion to us by name, but with no other indentifying information. He, I later learned (thank you, Google), was U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan.
Here's a link to an article about Garcetti's swearing in.

Here's a picture of me with Linda Deutsch and Lance Ito as we leave Taix. (So what's the 'local bag' connection? See below.)
I hadn't intended to imply that I was the local bag in that August company. The bag I had in mind is the one I'm holding, which was a premium reward for shopping so much at the The Gift Shoppe in Cudahy.
If you haven't already discovered The Gift Shoppe, you should drop in. I (obviously) have found many great items for my home and to give as gifts. Nothing says community like shopping local!
