New Kid's View
Family lured Jerrianne and her husband to South Milwaukee in 2002 from Southern California where she worked as, first, a journalist, then, as a court information officer. She now stays busy with media-relations consulting, playing with her three grandchildren (part of the lure), writing, discovering her new environs, and hoping her garden will produce before the first fall frost.
Your Voice in Education
I haven't made it to a South Milwaukee School Board meeting yet this year, but here's a report on one school that's in the district by E. W. Luther Elementary School parent Julie Schneider. It was written a couple of weeks ago, but I just now got the go-ahead to post it.
Although it concerns Luther specifically, it is a call to action for all South Milwaukeeans to get involved in our kids' ('our' as in the "It Takes a Villiage" sense) education.
Sept. 9 Hoan Bridge petition deadline
Anyone interested who hasn't done so yet, there's still time to sign a petiton to save the Hoan Bridge from possible demolition.
Milwaukee County Supervisor Patricia Jursik is spearheading a campaign to inform the public about such an eventually. Her efforts include a petition members of the public can sign. The petition is available at:

Dear Gov. Doyle, the Hoan is a bridge
Perhaps this article (URL below) will acquaint Gov. Jim Doyle's Madison office with this great bridge that serves as the gateway and arota to Milwaukee from the south.
A neighbor to our west in Oak Creek, Kathleen Slamka, who opposes the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce's move that could lead to possibly demolishing the six-lane Hoan Bridge and replacing it with a four-lane traffic-clogging, air-polluting, Port of Milwaukee-damaging, South Shore economy-busting 'lift' bridge anchoned with 'round-abouts', said that in a phone call to Doyle's Madison office that Doyle's staff said they'd never heard of the Hoan, and even had to ask how to spell it.
